Porcelain cups - I am still refining
and practicing my porcelain throwing skills. This is a dynamic process and requires constant practice on the wheel, by throwing #101mugs project. Along the way I will interrupt this
process to make teapots, bowls, saucers, recycled porcelain mugs, jugs, tealightholders, setsofvessels, jewellery, seasonal decorations, commissions , orders. I’m currently working on making large salad
bowls and platters.
I am also, making a 101+ mugs to
develop my control over the clay and to develop my skill at production throwing, to produce sets of the same shape and size. So the last 10 products will be about my own development, skill,
focus and achievement. In the process, I am aiming to make my mugs as thin and as transparent as possible. They will be incredibly light. I also increase the wet weight of the clay at
the 20 mug mark. I started with 350gms, and now throwing with 400gm balls.
350 grams of clay produces a cup
with a volume of approximately 200mls. Given that porcelain shrinks by 15% in the 2 firings. I compared this with a colleague’s cups and her 350gm ball of earthenware will produce a cup of
309mls volume.
